Healsio

That small, yet Powerful All-in-One Machine of mine...
One of my prized possessions in my kitchen is my small, yet multi-functional Red Sharp Healsio Steam Oven.

Many exclaimed in shock when they learnt the price of this compact, box-like machine. That's despite the fact that I got it at half the market price back then at a mere $900! Still, this price is too much for many to accept.

I don't blame them. They mistook my steam oven for some normal microwave oven. The exhorbitant price of $1800 (currently $1300+) just doesn't seem to justify for the purchase.

Or so this is what they think.

My Sharp Healsio is far from just having the usual reheat function that most microwave ovens have. It not only reheats, steams, grills, roasts, defrost, it also bakes. And recently, I discovered its hidden talent. It fries! Well, at least, the end product looks and tastes like it has been fried!

We, who live in a small HDB flat are especially delighted with it's all-in-one feature because that means that we don't have to set aside kitchen space for a separate steamer, oven, griller, etc because it is so space-efficient. And of coz, that would also mean that money is saved from buying additional products.

What I love most about this steam oven is that it uses water (at superheated levels) to cook food. There is no need to worry about the radiation and the harmful effects it will bring about in the long term as compared to microwave oven. The amazing thing is, it is able to reduce the oil and salt in the food AND, at the same time, preserve the vitamins and moisture in the food.

I use my Healsio at least once a day to make my breakfast, to whip up dinner or even to bake fries. I not only get hot piping tasty food, but also saves plenty of time by doing other stuff while this little red box is at work.

Incredible product. A must-have item for all busy people, housewives, health-conscious people alike!

To prove my point further on how amazing Healsio can be, I will share with you how I 'fry' pork cutlet the oil-less and healsio way! So keep a lookout for my next post!

Meanwhile, more information on the fat-zapping, salt-reducing, vitamins-preserving miracle machine... :)

Fancy an oven that zaps the fat from your food?

Well, Sharp's water oven, which we announced in Gadget Buzz last October, has finally made its way here to Singapore--the first country regionally to get it. For those still in the dark, the Healsio (an approximation of the Japanese meaning "reducing salt") utilizes steam superheated at 300 degrees Celsius. This potent steambath apparently melts away fat and reduces oil and salt in meat, but amazingly won't wilt your veggies into lifeless clumps, instead preserving those essential nutrients and vitamins.

Those of us at the press launch were equally amazed that the Healsio could toast bread with just water, albeit at superheated levels. For those watching their figure, the company claims that's eight times more fat removed to using a frying pan, 13 percent more calories cut, and thrice the salt reduced in grilled fish compared with cooking on a gas grill. For us watching the figures, that's six times the price of a conventional microwave oven at your neighborhood home appliance store.

Price: S$1,799 (US$1,111) Availability: Singapore from mid-March, only in silver Device: Steam oven Basic specs: 25 liters, 240-240v, 50Hz, 21 menus, functions include steam, grill, roast, bake, defrost and reheat, 850ml water tank, 520 x 490 x 345mm, 20kg

Hi! Glad to know that someone is interested in the Healsio too. The last time I saw the price at stores like Best Denki, it is still hovering at $1300+. I got it at the Best Denki opening sales at IMM at half price, which is $900. The original price back then was $1800. The promotion was only for one day. I suggest you can go to those 'neighbourhood' stores, such as Mega Discount Store at Katong Mall to get better deals. :)

Hi. Im glad to see your blog entry coz I hv been looking for pp who is using this oven. Can I ask if the 'ovened' food taste good? Does it take a long time to heat up food (Im using microwave oven now)? Thanks v much. Heidi

Food Lover said...

Hi Anonymous, no problem at all! 1) It's not that difficult to clean up. Just wipe the interior of the oven. It comes with a tray for the oil drippings. 2) I have been using the oven for 1 year, almost everyday and it is still in good condition! 3) Hmm.. I have not used a convection oven before, so I can't comment.

Food Lover said...

Hi Heidi, reheating of food doesn't really take long. 5 minutes on average, depending on how 'hot' you want your food to be. :)

hi food lover, I am keen in getting this Healsio, but I already have Panasonic NN-K574MF (Microwave / Grill Oven), do you think they have overlapping the function? The pasonic model has grill function but I have never used the button. Wonder if you know. Does Healsio has grill function?

Food Lover said...

Hi Siaw Huey,

I have not used the microwave oven that you have mentioned, so I can't comment. Perhaps you would like to try the grill function one day?

Yes, Healsio has the grill function. I used it to 'fry' pork cutlet. :)

Hi! I just bought my Healsio and I love it! Love yours in traffic stopping red!

Food Lover said...

Welcome to the Healsio family, WokkingMum! hehehe I sure can understand why you love it so much! I wanted to get the silver one, actually. But I got it at a promotional price, so wasn't given the choice to choose the colour. However, after the purchase, I think I like red more! What's the colour of your Healsio?

Unknown said...

Thanks for the welcome! :) Next time I know who to ask about Healsio!
Mine is silver. That's the only colour available but it matches my silver kitchen, though I would love to get the red one. ;)

for my new house soon. Just to confirm, can it bake cakes and cookies as well? Does it basically able to do everything an oven and microwave oven can?

Thanks in advance~~

Hi~I'm in KL,

Hi Lulu,

I didn't know the Healsio is in the 3rd generation already! The price is really exhorbitant!

You can get Healsio at most of the electrical outlets like Best Denki, etc in Singapore. But I am not too sure if it's the latest.

Enjoy cooking with Healsio! :)

Hi, food lover, it's a shame to say in fact, for me, I have used my Healsio in less than 10 times since I bought it. Last weekend, I was re-heating pizza (another shame to say :P), when it was done, during the waiting for extend cooking period, there was a high pitch sound from the equipment, do you experience that before?

Food Lover said...

Hi Shuey! Hmm... seems like your healsio is under-utilised. I do encounter high pitch sound from Healsio at times. It did scare me off the first time I heard it. But as it doesn't occur frequently, I just dismissed it off. :P My healsio is coming to 2 years and is still in good working condition. :)

Hi, do you know if the Healsio can be used to sterilise milk bottles? What settings should I use and for how many minutes?

Food Lover said...

Shirley, I am afraid I do not if Healsio is suitable for sterilising milk bottles. Maybe you can ask during the free lesson provided by Sharp? (I still have not attended it yet) :P

Hello Food Lover,
Just writing to say thankyou. By chance we found a Healsio for sale that was damaged (a slight dint on the door) at an amazingly cheap price of 150 €. I think no one was interested as the instruction manual had only English as the European language and we live in France. Anyway it works fine and as the weeks go by we are using it more and more. We are going to tryout your recipes

Hi and happy new year! I have just bought a Healsio and would like to know how long it'd take to cook brown rice in it. On a gas stove, cooking it the macrobiotic way, it'd take 45 min but perhaps with a Healsio it might be shorter. Wonder if you have any experience on this...

Ahjuma said...

Hi Food Lover, I just bought my Healsio silver yesterday.. Best Denki having a promo now at $1070 :). So excited that I finished going through the entire manual over the night.. haha..

Some questions:
- Do you really have to change the water tank, drip tray and do the draining after every cooking session? I read about that and sounds quite troublesome to do this everytime..
- Does the steam ventilator outlet at the back really wet the surroundings very much? My oven is currently located below a row of electrical plugs and light switches, which I have concerns over. But that's the best place in our kitchen for the oven..

Appreciate your comments, and really looking forward to more healsio time ahead :)

Food Lover said...

Hey Matthew, You are very welcome!

Glad that you are pleased with your purchase! (I think all Healsio owners are!) :)

Please cook more often with your Healsio and share what you've got!

Food Lover said...

Hi Suki,

I am afraid I do not know how long it will take to cook the brown rice.

If in doubt, I usually start with an estimated duration and adjust from there. Try and error, basically.

Keep experimenting! :)

Food Lover said...

Hey Ahjuma,

Yes! I saw that promotional price and I was like so happy (even though I already have got one). ha! Alamak, don't think I have read everything in the manual. :P

With regards to your question, I think it's advisable to drain your Healsio after you are done with your cooking for the day. I do that all the time. I agree that it may sound troublesome, but soon you will get used to it. :)

Yes, the steam goes all over. :P I had electrical sockets nearby too, but I don't think it will cause any major issues. :)

Happy cooking with Healsio!

Hi, I'm just wondering whether you have used the Healsio as a built-in unit or as a table-top unit? I'm v keen to get one for my new house after hearing all the gd reviews here! :)

Yellowgiraffe said...

Heya... I bought one recently and yes I think it's a great investment! Btw, can I use a aluminum baking tray for the baking and grilling using superheated steam function? I know that's a no no for microwave. Thanks!

Lulugoh said...

Hi~I just bought Sharp Healsio AX1300v at Best City Square mall Singapore with $799 (Free 4 Swansen Ice Cream Mooncake worth $27). Sharp at Malaysia still sell Healsio to Amway with horrible expensive price, so I travel to Singapore to buy this water oven!

Food Lover said...

Hi Rachel,I used it on my table top. Get one soon! :)

Food Lover said...

Hey yellowgiraffe, I tried using the alumninium foil and it was ok. I can't remember what function I have used though. Happy cooking! :)
